I wish to provide an opportunity for people to come together to think about and discuss Korea and the current state of its relationship with Japan today. As a main point of discussion we will talk about the Gwangju Uprising and Massacre, in which pro-democracy civilians and the Korean army came into conflict on May 18th 1980 in the city of Jeolla-do. By explaining how Korean society has changed and developed since the end of the war, I, as a a speaker, hope that this event will provide a base for further consideration of the relationship between Korea and Japan.
